Blue Safaris

From the Activities Centre you can enjoy the blue safari adventures, exploring the region with seasonal recommendations by an expert team. Nov – April/May Warm days with rain mainly overnight. Best for diving, fishing, snorkelling, turtle watching and terrestrial walks for lemurs etc. May/June – Oct Cooler weather with a prevailing south-easterly wind. Excellent for intrepid guests; find humpback whales & tens of thousands of nesting terns, partake in kite surfing or terrestrial walks for lemurs and other species.

On Land

On foot you can touch and feel nature Lighthouse Built in 1937 by the colonial French, this offers the perfect viewpoint with 360-degree views and is great for sundowners. The Cabinet de Curiosities Housing rare artefacts such as an elephant bird egg, pygmy hippo skeleton and local treasures. Explore some of Madagascar’s culture and heritage.

Guided Nature Walks In the islands forests find birds, chameleons, non-venomous snakes and an introduction to the region’s unique flora and fauna.

Guided Birding Boat trips to nearby island Manamphao offer the chanceto see four species of terns nesting in colonies numbering in the tens of thousands. Seasonal – May to September

Under Water

SCUBA DIVING Dive from shore on the shallow house reef, explore neighbouring islands or venture through the remains of small wrecks. Unique species you may see include manta rays, sea turtles, Napoleon wrasse, bumphead parrotfish and spinner dolphins. During the winter months, the number of dive sites are limited for reasons of safety. Time + Tide Miavana offers a PADI qualified centre. Divers who have not dived for 6 months or longer will be required to complete a refresher dive with our instructors

SCUBA DIVING Advanced Open Water Course. This course helps open water qualified divers improve their existing skills, such as buoyancy and diving to greater depths (30m extendable to 40m with deep specialty). The theory part of this course should be completed online before arriving.

PADI Discover Scuba Diving A closely guided introduction to diving for guests 10+ years looking to make their first foray into the underwater world. Max depth 12m

Bubble Maker Children 8-9 years old can don full scuba gear and jump in to explore the house reef while very closely supervised by one of our PADI instructors. Max depth of 2m

SNORKELLING Guided or independent snorkelling from the beach in front of the villas or by boat to nearby reefs

On The Water

Wakeboarding is a great group activity that can be paired with other water sports. There is also wakeboards, children’s skis and tubes that can be towed in the bay for a fun, family adrenaline-filled outing.

Stand-up Paddle boarding is a great activity for a calm day. Adventurous guests can explore the bays of Nosy Ankao with as a guided or independent (with experience) activity

Kite Surfing Seasonal winds create great conditions for kite surfing. This is currently only offered to guests with previous experience

Fishing – Pirogue Boat Trips Introductory fishing trips close to Miavana

Ski Boat Fishing 2-5 hours – trolling, bottom fishing, jigging or popping. Full day trolling, bottom fishing, jigging and/or popping. With top of the line gear, beginners and pros can try for a variety of fish, including barracuda, sailfish, marlin, mahi mahi, giant trevally and dogtooth tuna.

Guided Fly Fishing Flats fly fishing including fly casting instruction or fly tying if requested.
